Fixing up Misconceptions about Investing

By Rick Amorey

When thinking about stocks, there are many misconceptions one may have about investing in them. Usually, mistakes from misconceptions are easily corrected, but when money is involved in the mix, these mistakes can lead to big losses. This article is to help you ensure that you do not have these disastrous misconceptions.

In investing, the first and most glaring misconception is the idea that you can be an overnight success. If your financial portfolio is well-established, and you are one to make good decisions, there definitely will be times when you can earn hundreds on a regular basis. But this requires a lot of discipline to study the market, as well as patience. If you try to make a quick buck, you'll just watch as your capital burns out right before your eyes.

This brings me to my next point. In trying to earn big fast, some people invest everything they have in one and only one stock. This is not a horse race, and you don't have to bet it all in one horse! You see, even the best experts in stocks will suffer the occasional burnout; wouldn't you rather have a small percentage of your investment suffer from the loss, rather than have all of them disappear in one bad day?

The next one isn't that much of a misconception; but it is ill-advised nonetheless. The idea of being able to maneuver stocks without a capable broker is indeed plausible, but I wouldn't do that if I were you. Trading is not a joke, and the study and experience that a broker has will help prevent a beginner from making bad decisions; at first, at least.

Last, I would like to state that the economy's current instability does not mean that this is not a good time to invest in stocks. On the contrary, now is a good time to buy up stocks when they're priced low. It's a long term investment, and a good one at that, but like everything else, must be thought about with care - 23229
